Welcome to the Ponty Town web site...

TRAVEL & TOURISM

This page should be for the tens of thousands of visitors flocking to the tourist mecca that is Pontypridd but alas we're still waiting for fingers to be pulled out of arses...

So, I guess this very short page is for the few wishing to come to Ponty and the valleys to visit friends and family, drop off students at University (I remember when it was a Poly) and the many more wanting to escape our once beautiful town forever!

Unfortunately, after 30 years of inertia from various council administrations and 12 years trying to get a worthwhile sustainable development for the people of Pontypridd from this website nothing has changed. Actually that's not true, things are worse now. The website was started to improve the lot of Ponty people but things have gone from bad to worse. Various fools suggest silly solutions but no-one has the balls to actually do anything.

Ponty - a town of over 30,000 residents still does not have a swimming pool, a sports centre or a regional rugby team. This is unacceptable and bordering on criminal! Should we write to the authors of "Crap Towns"?

Getting Here
Most trains and buses run from many UK towns to Cardiff and then a quick change and a short 30mins ride north gets you to Ponty. Public transport in the UK is extortionate compared to the rest of the world and is also pretty unreliable so renting a car can often be an easier way to get around.

Places to stay

Ponty is very short on accommodation although Cardiff obviously has hundreds of places for all budgets. To be honest we don't know a single place to stay in Ponty, although you can find a few online. What any of these are like or indeed if they are still open we don't know so can't really say. If you run a B&B in Ponty please let us know and we'll add you to our very short list.

I suppose we might suggest that there is a potential market here for someone to open up a good B&B in town and advertise it in our business directory and message board as some people must still want to visit Ponty.

Visiting Ponty?

There are things to see and do here but you'll need to work hard to find them yourself. Our view is that Ponty should promote itself more as a tourist attraction to encourage more visitors? After all we have the Park, tons of history, the Taff Trail and beautiful scenery but without leadership from council what hope do we really have? Take a look at our photos page or scroll through the images of Wales and Pontypridd here.

Leaving town?

Travel has never been easier for most UK people these days although for us in Ponty this is not the case. Cardiff Airport is extremely limited in where it flies to and the capital's airport doesn't even have a train link to anywhere! Third world or what!?

Of course, people will criticise this page and ask "What can be done?" - well we don't need answers on a postcard - we need someone to just do. Then perhaps we can update this page.
